Did Michael Proctor “Proctor” Up Juliana Nagel’s Statement?
One of the most interesting documents I’ve seen in the recent Karen Read file dump is Exhibit O in affidavit files by Attorney Alan Jackson on November 16, 2023— described in the filing as former MSP Trooper Michael Proctor’s handwritten notes from his October 5, 2022 interview with Juliana Nagel.
That alone caught my attention because these may be the only handwritten Proctor interview notes I’ve personally seen surface publicly in the Karen Read case files.
But the bigger issue is what appears to change between the notes and Proctor’s typed report.
In the handwritten notes, Nagel appears to say that an object stood out to her as she drove by, seen from the back passenger window. The notes say she SAW the object by the flagpole and described it as a dark object in the white snow.
That detail makes it into the typed report — but in a cleaner, more controlled way.
The typed report says Nagel “THOUGHT she saw something in the yard” and then states she observed “a dark object in the white snow by the flagpole.” It also adds that the object stood out as “something out of the ordinary,” but that she was not sure what it was.
So the core point remains: Juliana Nagel SAW something dark in the snow near the flagpole.
But here’s where the questions start.
Why did Proctor phrase it the way he did?
Why does his typed report appear to narrow or polish the language from the handwritten notes? The statement went from Nagel saying she SAW to THOUGHT she SAW?
Why wasn’t this treated as a major investigative lead, considering John O’Keefe was later found in that general area?
And most importantly:
What was Michael Proctor’s motive in how he documented this interview?
Was he simply summarizing messy handwritten notes into a formal report? Or was he shaping the language in a way that minimized the importance of what Nagel saw?
Fair question.
Instead, it reads in his type version verses his notes like another major detail in Karen’s case that Proctor had his hands in was “PROCTORED”.
Given everything we now know about Proctor’s conduct and credibility issues, this report deserves scrutiny.
This isn’t just about what Juliana Nagel SAW.
It’s about how Michael Proctor chose to write it down.
